The Z3 is the first phone leveraging BlackBerry's strategic partnership with Foxconn Electronics, BlackBerry CEO John Chen said at MWC. The two companies signed the cooperation pack in December 2013.Foxconn chairman Terry Gou and FIH Mobile chairman Vincent Tong and CEO Calvin Chih were all present to witness the debut of the Z3 at MWC. FIH Mobile, a handset arm of the Foxconn Group, is responsible for development and production of the Z3.In addition to the 5-inch full touchscreen, the Z3 also features a 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon 400 CPU and a built-in FM radio. The Z3, codenamed Jakarta, is likely to carry a price tag below US$200 and will target Indonesia initially and then other markets in Southeast Asia, Chen said.Chen believes that the Z3, priced at sub-US$200, will be competitive enough in Indonesia and will see BlackBerry's share in that market rebound following the planned release of the new phone in April.Additionally, Guo added that those Z3 smartphones for sale in the North America will be produced by Foxconn's factories in Mexico, while those for Indonesia and other Southeast markets will be rolled out in Indonesia. The BlackBerry 20, codenamed Classic, will be equipped with a 3.5-inch touchscreen and a QWERTY keyboard. BlackBerry will also launch its BES 12 (BlackBerry Enterprise Solution 12) along with the Q20, supporting BlackBerry, iOS, Android and Windows.Foxconn will also cooperate with BlackBerry in the fields of BES, BBM and M2M (machine to machine), Gou revealed.
