Mission Impossible Report Guidelines

Your Mission, should you choose to accept it (and you will be graded) is to search
for information vital to the national security on the United States. You and your
Mission Impossible partners (you will be in a group of 2-4) will select a country, one
of the world’s “hot spots” from an approved list. You will then prepare a portfolio with strategic information
about this country. You will be asked to share in a brief presentation key information regarding your
country to the Mission Impossible commander and other members of the IMF. It is of utmost importance
that your portfolio be kept confidential and contain the following information:

   • Page 1 History – Create a timeline of the history of this country. Start with the year the country
attained independence and from whom. Create a descriptive historical timeline of at least 10
important events since the country gained independence as a colony.
   • Page 2 Political Climate – construct a table or chart of information on the country’s political
situation. Include current information on the type of government, key leader(s), and conflicts they
are currently involved in (internal and external), weapons capabilities, (including if they have
weapons of mass destruction) and environmental issues.
   • Page 3 Map – A map of the country showing the capital city, other major cities, major rivers, ports
(if any) and a list of the major natural resources of the country.
   • Pages 4-5 Socio-Economic Data – Create a table/chart that shows the Gross Domestic Product,
Unemployment Rate, Consumer Prices, Infant Mortality Rate, Average Life Expectancy, Literacy
Rate, Average Education, Average Income (per capita income), Poverty Level.
   • Pages 6-7 Recent Political or Economic Events -- Using data from a news source or newspaper
article (internet, magazine, or newspaper dated January 2007-now) describe a current situation or
event that occurred by summarizing the article. You must do this for two events and two different
articles. Include the articles with your report.
   • Page 8 Attitude towards U.S. -- Describe in two-three paragraphs the attitudes of this country
       toward the United States.
   • Page 9-10 Human Rights – Report on any recent human rights problems, civil wars, and rebellions,
dissident or terrorist groups that may cause instability in this nation. (Hint: Do the people have the
right to vote, the right of a fair trial, freedom of religion, freedom of the press? Etc. Does this
country employ child labor, have an issue with children soldiers or sweatshop labor?) Write 1 page
       on these issues.
   • Pages 11-12 Current Challenges/Summary – Describe the three most significant challenges this
country faces now and in the future. Use your research to explain and justify what brought you to
these conclusions. Write a minimum of 1 ½ pages on this topic.

You and your IMF team members will be required to submit this strategic portfolio with the required
information in a report cover or file. The front of your portfolio must have the name and national flag
(colored) of your country. The inside cover or first page of your portfolio should list the contents as well as
the group members responsible for each piece (like a table of contents). For the integrity of your mission,
it is paramount that your team accesses the most current information available. The CIAs database will be
an excellent resources and starting point. You can find their data at:
https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/.

Remember, you and your IMF task force will also be sharing this information in a 4-6 minute presentation
with the other IMF members. However, do not share this classified information with individuals who do not
have the appropriate security clearance. And, as always should you or your partners be captured (or
worse ) the United States will disavow any knowledge of your existence.

This message will self-destruct in 10 seconds . . . OK probably not.
