Mise-en-scene
By Ethan
Location
In Clip 3 we first get a glance at
Sarah's daughter within a dark
place with a birthday cake in
front of her.
After that we see Sarah within a
hospital bed, wearing a hospital
gown, letting the audience know the
location of Sarah.
Finally, towards the end of the clip we see
Sarah exit the room and look down a long
hallway that looks like a hallway that
would belong in a hospital, confirming
the audience presumptions that she is in a
hospital
Body Movement
As Sarah is laying in the hospital, she starts to
panic as she takes of the wires. The audience will
be able to tell by her movement. First she looks
down and looks all over her deciding which
wire to take off first. The audience will also be
able to tell that she's scared via her shaking
when taking off the wires
After exiting the hospital room, we see Sarah
start’s to run slowly due to injuries. After that
fear takes over and she start to run faster when
she realizes that the darkness is coming for her
Costumes
Considering Sarah’s injuries and where
Sarah is, it will be obvious that she will be
wearing a Hospital gown.
And finally at the end of the clip, we
see other people come into the scene
wearing a variety of clothing. For
example, there are doctors and nurse
outfits. Also, two of Sarah’s friend are
there wearing casual clothing. This in
turn makes Sarah stand out from the
crowd.
Props
We see a Happy Birthday cake with
six candles on top of it. This tells the
audience that Sarah's daughter is six
years old. As she blows each candle
out it signifies that her life is slowly
disappearing into darkness.
We can also see Sarah interacting
with an IV wire and then finally
with a heartbeat monitor. As she
takes that off we see the heartbeat
monitor flat line signifying death.
Lighting
Within the shot of Sarah's daughter and
the birthday cake we see two colours that
stand out the most. The Darkness around
her signifying emptiness and the orange
from the candles giving Sarah and the
audience a feeling of warmth.
This hallway gets a completely different
feeling compared to the first hallway that
Sarah's in. The reason for this is because the
green tint has gone, however it’s the same
brightness, giving it a natural look and
feeling.
When Sarah is alone in the hallway, we
get the feeling that she’s in a institution
because of the green tint within that scene.
It also boosts the feeling of loneliness and
gives of the feeling that she's in danger, a
kind of sinister feeling.
