• Educate Rutgers graduate and
undergraduate students on the
safety and health hazards associated
with child labor in urban areas
globally
• More than 220 million children work
or are forced to work worldwide in
hazardous conditions that can affect
their health and education.
• Children’s bodies are at risk for
various illnesses and injuries while
working in industries such as mining,
agriculture, and manufacturing with
little to no compensation.
Coordinated three-discussion-
based film screening events
Presented 5-6 of 19 short films on
various forms of child labor at each
event
Conducted student discussion
• Identify the academic areas of interest and future needs among Rutgers
graduate and undergraduate students. Each student chose one or more of
four options.
Special thanks to Dr. Derek Shendell,
D.Env, MPH, Alexandra Apostolico, MPH,
BS and Professor Ann-Marie Hill for their
assistance and support throughout this
project. Funding source: GAIA Centers
• Student evaluation forms were assessed and both quantative and
qualitative data were analyzed.
• Future events during the team’s 2015-2017 Global Urbanism grant for
Rutgers faculty and students will be altered according to data obtained.
