We took a bus trip to Macedonia, arriving in Skopje on November 1st where we had friendly meetings with Macedonian students and families who invited us into their homes. The next day included workshops, games and a visit to the oldest newspaper in Macedonia. We also had a fun time at the zoo. On the third day, we had an interesting meeting about a documentary film and went sightseeing in Skopje before expressing how happy we were to visit Macedonia.

The next day, they visited their partner's school, which was very large. They built LEGO robots in international groups with their partners and the student had a long break. It was a hot day so they ate ice cream after.

Starting our trip to Romania we were all, students and teachers, nervous but also curious for what we would run into when we reached Caracal. We travelled from Ioannina to Thessaloniki by bus, then flew to Athens and finally to Bucharest. There we were greeted by two of the Romanian teachers who took us to a park where we visited a museum and walked around until we got hungry and had a break to eat something. Finally after spending sometime waiting we continued our trip to Caracal exhausted. A Strategic Approach: GenAI in Education
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

- 1. We went to Macedonia by bus. We arrived in Skopie on 1st November at ’’St. Kliment Ohridski’’school. Our meeting with Macedonian students, their teachers and families were very friendly. We were invited in students families and had a great time there. On the second day we were surprised with funny workshops and games. Then we went to the center of the oldest newspaper in Macedonia - New Macedonia.
- 2. . We visited the Zoo. We had a funny time there. . On the third day, we had an interesting meeting with Biliana Garvanlieva and her documentary movie-’’The Girl and the Accordion’’. It was a soul-stirring film.
