GROUP 1

2. DIGESTIVE SYSTEM
1. Nausea and vomiting
4-16 wks gestation, due to hormonal
influences- HCG, progesterone and estrogen
2. Heart burn
Progesterone relaxes the cardiac sphincter
of the stomach hence reflux of gastric
contents (30-40 weeks)
3. Ptyalism (Excessive salivation)

3. DIGESTIVE SYSTEM CTD.
- 8 wks gestation due to hormones,
accompanied by heart burn.
4. Pica behavior
- Craving for certain foods that are not normal.
Due to hormones and change in metabolism
5. Constipation
- Progesterone causes relaxation and reduced
peristalsis movement of the gut, growing
uterus displace the gut.

4. MUSCULOSKELETAL SYSTEM
1. Back ache – sitting and Posture
Hormones soften ligaments.
2. Cramps
Cause unknown but may be due to ischemia
or electrolyte imbalance or changes in PH

5. GENITO- URINARY SYSTEM
1. Frequency of micturition
2. Lucorrhoea

6. CIRCULATORY SYSTEM
1. Fainting
- Due to vasodilatation of blood vessles under
influence of progesterone
2. Varicosities
- Progesterone relaxes smooth muscles of veins
and results in sluggishness of the veins.
( Vericose veins in legs, anus and vulva)

7. SKIN
1. Skin changes include:
linea nigra, areolar of the breast and
Chloasma

8. NERVOUS SYSTEM
1. Carpal tunnel syndrome
- Numbness, pins and needles in fingers and
hands. Due to fluid retention that creates
edema and pressure on the median nerve.
2. Insomnia
- Due to nocturnal frequency and increased
blood supply to the uterus causing the baby
increase movements
