Editor's Notes
My name is Emre Ruhi and I’m here today to tell you about microcoaching - an on-demand video game coaching company.
Before I start, I want to quickly tell you about us.
We’re a team of 2nd year MBA students at GTown.
Before business school we each had our own businesses, and mine was actually in the video game industry.
We are also competitive video game players and with microcoaching we finally have a good excuse :D
Gamers want to improve in the same way that athletes and students do. The problem is that the resources that exist are tedious and time consuming to go through.
One way you could learn it is by watching a 45 min YouTube video. The better way is by using Microcoaching and getting direct help from an expert in your game.

In this recording of an actual session, you can see a handsome coach in the bottom right teaching the player in the bottom left. Here I’m teaching a player how to throw a smoke grenade in just the right way to block the enemy’s vision. And the whole lesson takes just a few minutes.
The video game market is huge.
It’s bigger than the music industry.
It’s bigger than the movie industry.
And there’s a huge amount of engagement.
After doing over 500 customer interviews we’ve shown that there is a real demand for our product and gamers are willing to pay $20-25 / hr for coaching from an expert.
That’s a lot of people spending a lot of money. And we as a team very much like a lot of money :D
So how does it work?
Let's say you're stuck somewhere in a game, or you’ve reached a skill plateau or you just keep losing to your friends.
You log into our website, pick an expert, vetted coach, and our patent pending technology connects you directly to him.
You can share your screen and find out why you keep losing to your little brother in Fifa.
It’s all in your web browser and on-demand, with no configuration, download or delay.
And based off the # of repeat users alone, we know it works.
Why hasn’t this been solved already? This is a highly fragmented market - there's a lot of people who are good at games, a lot of people who want to get better, but no good way for the two to connect. Microcoaching is a marketplace that bridges that huge gap.
In the past 6 months ago, we have built a working beta, attracted more than 225,000 people to our video content, completed over 250 coaching sessions, registered 220 users, and recruited 30 expert coaches.
To give you a better idea of what these numbers mean: we’ve done over 180 hours of video game lessons. 180 hours is like 14 class credits for an undergrad, and almost an entire degree’s worth of classes for a grad student :D
Recently our traction has been super exciting. Two weekends ago we had 13k unique visitors, nearly all from the demographic we’re specifically targeting
Earlier this November we won the SoFi entrepreneur competition. Here we are with SoFi’s cofounder Dan Macklin
But I like to think our recent growth was because we were on TV a few weeks ago.
One of our fans was in the crowd at ELEAGUE, which is a counterstrike tournament broadcast on TBS every Friday night.
And like most of our demographic, I was home that Friday night and had the chance to taken this frantic iPhone phone of my own TV
It was pretty cool :D
So with this momentum, what are our next steps?
Here you can see a few of the benchmarks and milestones we hope to achieve in the near future.
In the next few months we want to improve our platform, partner with popular gamers and teams, and eventually average 100/sessions a day.
At $25 per session and 15% commission that nets us $150,000 in revenue.
Finally, I want to tell you about our vision for microcoaching and emphasize how huge the growth opportunities are:
As our marketplace grows, our content library grows. Content & patent licensing is highly profitable and it's even possible to build a digital coaching system from all the data we’ll have.
We ultimately want microcoaching to be everywhere:
Ubiquitous integration into game platforms like Xbox and PlayStation and Steam will give any gamer access to the help they want, when they want it.
It doesn't matter what you’re playing or what device you’re using:
if you’re stuck, just connect to a microcoach and get back to having fun.
Thank you and please check us out at microcoaching.net!
