SAP Hana is an in-memory column-store database that provides efficient storage and access. It benefits from its technical architecture of using a single broad satellite per hub, which means no need for a physical intermediate table and fewer tables overall. While splitting satellites based on rate-of-change is efficient for storage as a column store, multiple satellites may be preferred if data is coming from multiple sources for better write efficiency. Referential joins in Hana only perform the join if data from the joined tables is used, so it is efficient to create one physical intermediate table per hub instead of using SQL views.
