The report finds that based on current trends, by 2030 there could be significant gaps between the skills workers have and the skills employers need globally. There may be a shortage of 38-40 million college-educated workers, especially in advanced economies and China. Developing economies could face a shortage of 45 million medium-skilled workers and a surplus of 90-95 million low-skilled workers. If unaddressed, these imbalances could slow economic growth and increase inequality and unemployment around the world. Major policy efforts are needed to improve education and training systems to develop needed skills.
