llison Raymunt al-
ways wanted her
hometown of Wa-
terbury to be more
dog-friendly.
The 37-year-old business
owner worked in Boston for
nearly 10 years and remarked
on how open to dogs the busi-
ness community was there. Af-
ter she was laid off from the
Dutch multinational ING
Group in 2011, she started her
own pet sitting and walking
business, and the idea for a
more dog-friendly environ-
ment really started to (pardon
the pun) gnaw at her. She be-
came determined to do some-
thing about it.
On Sept. 23, she will make
some inroads in that goal when
Steakz Rodhouse in Waterbury
hosts what Raymunt says is the
Brass City’s first “Yappy
Hour,” an outdoor happy hour
to which dogs are invited. The
event, which runs from 6 to 8
p.m., will take place on the
restaurant’s patio. In addition
to the usual appetizers, dog
owners will get “doggie bags,”
dogs may avail themselves of
dog treats, and Uniquely Yours
Photography of Waterbury will
be on hand to photograph own-
ers walking up the (yes, that
too) red carpet with their pets.
“I’m super excited about the
Yappy Hour,” said Raymunt.
“It’s something that has not
been done in Waterbury. It’s
been done all over the country.
Waterbury isn’t the most dog-
friendly city but this is a start.”
Of course, there are some con-
siderations. Dogs must be on a
leash. They must be able to get
along with other dogs. And it
would probably be a good idea
if they refrained from slurping
