Metabolism is the sum of chemical reactions that convert nutrients into energy and complex substances into simpler forms. Photosynthesis uses light energy to synthesize organic molecules from carbon dioxide and water. There are two phases of photosynthesis - the light-dependent reactions that use solar energy to produce ATP and NADPH, and the light-independent reactions of the Calvin cycle that use these products to fix carbon and produce glucose. Enzymes and coenzymes catalyze specific metabolic reactions and are essential for normal metabolism, growth, and survival.
The document discusses geometrical dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) in engineering drawings. It explains that GD&T uses standardized symbols to precisely describe measurements and geometries of parts or assemblies, reducing the need for complex descriptions in drawings. Tolerances are also discussed, which are the acceptable variance ranges between maximum and minimum measurements, divided into two categories: unilateral tolerances and bilateral tolerances.
The document provides information about ecological concepts and communities. It defines an ecosystem as a collection of populations that live together in an area over time, interacting with each other. A population is defined as a group of living organisms of the same species in one area, while a community is defined as a collection of populations in an area that interact and influence one another. Communities can be named based on their main structure, habitat, or functional characteristics. The document also lists different types of communities such as aquatic and terrestrial, and characteristics used to describe communities such as diversity, relative abundance, and stability.

Medical image registration is a process that aligns images from different imaging modalities, such as CT, MRI, and PET/SPECT scans, in order to compensate for differences in patient positioning. It helps integrate information from multiple images to aid in medical diagnosis and treatment. The goal is to align images by translating, rotating, scaling, and warping one "source" image to match a reference "fixed" image, allowing features to be correlated between images. Registration techniques can be rigid, limiting transformation to rotations and translations, or non-rigid, allowing more degrees of freedom for complex soft tissue deformations. An example is presented of non-rigid registration to correct for breathing motion between PET and CT images of a melanoma

3. ▪ Metabolism is the sum of the chemical
changes that convert:
▫ Nutrients into energy.
▫ Chemically complex substances of
cells into simpler forms.
▫ Chemically simple substances into
functional complex biomolecules.
4. The Sun is Energy for Life
Phototrophs (Plants) use light to
drive synthesis of organic molecules.
Heterotrophs (Animals) use these as
building blocks.
CO2,O2 and H2O are recycled.
5.
6. Importance Of Metabolism
▪ Normal Metabolism is vital for
health, growth, reproduction
and good survival of human
beings.
7. ▪ Enzymes along with
Coenzymes biocatalyze
specific metabolic reactions.
▪ Thus Enzymes are “Functional
units of Metabolism”
8. S
Photosynthesis is carried out by
unicellular algae and
photosynthesizing bacteria.
Photosynthesis happens in
eukaryotic species' thylakoid
membranes.
Photosynthesis is divided into two
phases: Light-dependent and the
Light-independent reaction.
9. PHOTOSYNTHESIS: LIGHT
DEPENDENT
REACTION
The processes that are light-dependent
transform light energy into chemical
energy. The purpose of photosynthesis'
light-dependent reactions is to capture
solar energy and break down water
molecules to form ATP and NADPH.
14. Light-Independent Reactions
The anabolic reactions of photosynthesis occur in
the stroma of a chloroplast or the cytoplasm of
cyanobacteria. These reactions use energy
produced by the light phase to synthesize glucose
by means of the Calvin cycle.
The cycle begins at the point where CO2 is combined with a 5-
carbon acceptor molecule with two terminal phosphates called
ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate (RuBP).
15. CARBON FIXATION
Generates a 6-carbon
intermediate compound
Splits into two 3-carbon molecules of
3-phosphoglyceric acid (PGA)
16. The subsequent steps use ATP and
NADPH generated by the photosystems to
form high energy intermediates:
First, 2 ATPs are expended to add a second phosphate to 3-PGA,
producing two molecules of 1,3-bisphosphoglyceric acid (BPG).
17. This is followed by NADPH contributing its electrons
to BPG with the removal of one high-energy
phosphate. These events give rise to two
glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate (G3P).
18. Production of Glucose
This molecule and its isomer dihydroxyacetone phosphate (DHAP) are
key compounds in hexose synthesis leading to fructose and glucose.
19. Some of the G3P is conveyed to
the remainder of the cycle,
where it participates in the
regeneration of RuBP.
REGENERATION OF RuBP
20. RUBP Regeneration refers to the
cyclical process where the
photosynthetic enzyme Rubisco
fixes carbon dioxide into the sugars
that fuel plant growth and
productivity.
