 It is a national
holiday.
 It is the fourth
Monday of May.
 On Memorial Day,
Americans remember
the soldiers who died
in wars.

 There are parades in
many towns.
 Soldiers march in the
parades.
 Bands play marching
music.

 People watch the
parades. Then they
go to the cemetery
and put flowers and
flags on the graves.

 There is no school on
Memorial Day. Banks
and post offices are
closed.

 There is a three-day
weekend so many
people travel on
Memorial Day
weekend.
 Many beaches and
parks are open for the
summer on Memorial
Day.
