A meme is an idea, behavior, or style that spreads from one person to another within a culture. Memetics is the study of memes and how they are transmitted, applying evolutionary principles. The concept of the meme was first coined by Richard Dawkins in 1976 to refer to cultural replicators that spread analogous to genes.
