Sir Francis Drake was an English explorer who was the first Englishman to circumnavigate the globe. He sailed on five different ships over the course of his career, including the Golden Hind, which he used to complete the circumnavigation. Drake had a love for the sea from a young age and began sailing at 13 years old. He made three circumnavigations over the course of his career and helped defeat the Spanish Armada, showing that the world could be sailed around.
