++++++3 Months of Basic Training.
9 Months in transit through
the warp.
4 Weeks in-system travel,
waiting to be deployed on
some Emperor-forsaken
backwater planet.
And an average lifespan of
fifteen minutes...
You still spend the whole
time thinking about that
Hotty back home, and the
things she wanted to do with
you!
After cleansing heretic scum
with holy fire, a stolen
glance at the photo she gave
you lifts your spirits.
She almost comes alive as
you remember the day you
;took the photo her perfume
as she came close, that
melodic giggle as she stole
your pen and the way she
formed her letters as she
"wrote that line, Light my
"fire xxx.
A truly warming memory of
that Hotty back home. How
you wish you could go back
and really light her fire!

I really wanted to play with the actual space of
the entry this time, with the lines of sight and
stuff. In hindsight the internet is probably not
the best place for that on account of the 2D
non-handling nature! But I had a lot of fun
nutting this one out and it is pleasing to
handle and look at.
The empty 'frame' he is holding lines up with
the vignette of the Hotty when you get about
5-8mm from it... and before anyone yells at
me, YES the topmost image of the 'photo' is a
composite of the in-focus 'frame' and the in-focus girl. Then it was altered to
look more like an old photograph. The unaltered image is in the bottom
right.
So this Guardsman looks longingly at a photo of his Hotty back home and
she comes to life with the help of his memories. I didn't just want to do a tiny
freehand photo because I thought it would be boring, also the hand-written
message at that tiny scale would have been impossibly to do.
I also did some subtle stuff like had unlit candles next to the Hotty, along
with red eye shadow, lipstick and swimwear. This contrasted with the
Guardsman who was very green but has the red flame on his flamer, along
with a petrol can!
And yes, I know pilot lights are generally blue-flame but it didn't tie in as well
and people don't connect 'blue' with fire... so I took some "artistic License"
and went with red.

Here is my Rogue Psyker. It was originally
an entry for a painting comp, but I left it and
several other entries in a figure case on a
train. Luckily I got them back, but not till after
the comp.
I've had a bit of fun with the pic, I hope it
doesn't put off too much!
I think that the OSL (Object Source Lighting)
needs a little cleaning up, but I'm generally
happy with it. I'm really pleased with the
'camo' and the skin tone too.

This model was a bit more thought out than many of my previous paint jobs. I
considered more the cool & warm colours, and I tried some new techniques. General
aim was to paint the Elf in totally cool colours that befit the northern region he comes
from, however then to paint the surrounds and anything not his (blood, base, dirt on
clothes, severed head and to a certain extent the sea-dragon cloak) in warmer colours.
And of course my "trademark" small sculpted animal... this time a mouse/rat of some
kind.
In terms of feedback I've already had a lot of good stuff; cloak, hair, metal, base....
Weisern spotted the "splotch" of
black wash that I forgot to blend
back in on the back of the axe
head. I also noticed another on
HIS left gauntlet.
Automaton also pointed out that
the sand/dirt on his tabard thing
was a bit light and looked like a
possible highlight error :v( but I
didn't see any way around it seeing
as he is on a sandy base... maybe
I would be better to try to make the
dirt stains a bit more subtle next
time...
I've had extra feedback talking
about being more adventurous
with the cloak like blending through
a couple of colours along the
scales or trying some special
translucency action on each scale.
Anyhow, it's done now and
although there are things I can do
to it, it's a real fav of mine in my
collection.

Lord of Chaos, Eternally bound into service, tasked with erm... Killing...
undead for the rest of time... Even Undead Skeletons flee in terror from
him!
Harry is very mean to Undead... Horrid to Ghouls... Nasty to Vampires... A
jerk to Zombies... and Bad to Bones!
Here we see Harry stepping on a poor skeleton who was just trying to play
some 8-ball... cue still in hand he tells it to Harry like it is; "You're a Bad
Man!"... yeah! Take that you big armoured bully!
Harry also found time to stick a mean sign onto the forehead of the biggest
'bone' in the place... the poor guy has no bone-arms and will never be able
to take that sign off!
Damn, he's one bad Chaos Warrior!
+++
Had a lot of fun with this one... was also getting sick of 'neat' displays so I
smashed up a slab of skulls I had and got this end result.
Tried out some glowing eyes (OSL for those who want technical names),
and also a bit of scratching and whatnot.
This is a gorgeous model to paint. This is the second one I've done and I
could easily to some more versions!

Everyone loves the
fish in the water,
and I even painted
its eyes (but there's
only a couple of
angles you can see
it from in real life).
Overall, very
pleased with this
model as one of the
best single models
I've ever painted.
When I painted it I
toyed with some
techniques for doing
mother of pearl
which came out ok
in the mosaic areas.
Points of note - the
dappled markings
on the crest were a
last minute addition
that I think saved
my arse in the
comp; beforehand it
looked really odd
without being able
to say why!
If I did it again, I'd
make the little blue
gem on the tail
armour a different
colour, I think it sits at odds with the rest of the model. I'd probably do a pale green to
tie in with both the lily pads and the mosaics (and the shield a bit too).

Lastly is the infamous "Plan-B" Gorbad Ironclaw...
Assembled on a Tuesday, Undercoated Wednesday, Painted Thursday
afternoon & Friday night... entered on the Saturday!
I wanted my Medium entry to be very GW this year... my intended entry, a
Warrior Priest was very bright, vibrant, strong and detailed... so when I had
to do a new entry I picked Gorbad, a model I wanted to paint since the

'Eavy Metal guide in White Dwarf. With time restrictions and my creativity
flame running a little low I simply followed the guide, with the exception of a
couple of Foundation Paint range replacements for mixes of the same
shade, and the 'Bensquig" symbol on Gnarla's armour rather than the 'bad
moon'...
The colours are all very strong. The model has that... Hobbiton kind of feel
where things are "Greener than green, bluer than blue". It's not my normal
style which is why I had a crack at it and tried not to bring anything of my
normal painting into it!
I did bring the skin up a little as it was getting lost; same colours just a
slightly lighter mix than the guide. The freehand could have been tighter,
neater... but it was 3am!
