Medical Assistant (NCMA)Medical Assistants assist in the examination and treatment of patients
under the direction of a physician or other health care practitioner. A Medical Assistant's scope of
practice includes both administrative and clinical responsibilities and may vary state to state.
Medical Assistants must be knowledgeable and possess skills in medical terminology, anatomy
physiology, medical law ethics, medical office administrative procedures (e.g., telephone techniques,
scheduling, electronic health records, and medical office computer). A Medical Assistant's clinical
skills may include but are not limited to vital signs, phlebotomy, and point-of-care testing,
pharmacology and medication administration.
There are THREE (3) routes of eligibility to take the NCMA exam. Select your route of eligibility
from the following:
(1A) Current Student in a Medical Assistant program from an NCCT (authorized) school
(1B) Graduation from a Medical Assistant program from an NCCT (authorized) school, within the
past FIVE years
(2) Two years of verifiable full-time experience as a Medical Assistant practitioner within the past
FIVE years
(3) Completion of Medical Assistant training or its equivalent during U.S. Military service within the
past FIVE years

2. Are you a CURRENT STUDENT in a Medical Assistant program?
You must be a United States high school graduate or hold equivalent credentials (e.g., GED).
You must submit a copy of your Medical Assistant diploma, certificate of completion, or transcript
with graduation date within 60 days of graduation; or contact NCCT for other suitable
arrangements.
This document is not required to take the exam, but your certificate will not be released until it is
received.

In order for NCCT to process your application in a timely manner your application and all required
documentation must be submitted 14 days prior to your anticipated test date.
Applications and payments are valid for one year from the date of submission to NCCT.
