Medea writes Jason accusing him of making her sacrifice her family for him and then abandoning her by marrying another woman. She claims responsibility for killing the princess and King Creon out of revenge against Jason. Jason responds that Medea's actions were her own choice and not his fault, and that he married the princess to provide for Medea and their children, not to abandon them. He condemns Medea for destroying his new family through murder.

Step one: Write the original draft.
Write two letters one month after the end of the events in the Euripedes' play Medea. The first is from Medea to Jason. In it she must justify all her actions since the Argonauts arrived in Colchis. She must explain away a string of bloody murders and betrayal. Jason must respond and rebuke her point by point while giving his own view of the events.
Word Length: Both letters typed together must total exactly 800 words. Each letter should average around the 400-word range. Word count MUST be 800 exactly.
Step 2: Turn on highlighting and mark your strongest points. You can highlight single words, phrases, whole sentences, whole sentence clusters. Focus on capturing the most essential words that advance your argument
1. Dear Jason,
You are the most horrid man I have ever met. You made me do all these things for nothing. I defied my father so you could get the Golden Fleece because I loved you that much. I killed my brother to slow my father down so that he could not catch you and kill you. I tricked King Pelias’ daughters into chopping him up so that you could be king like you were supposed to be. But it didn’t work out and we moved to another land to be free. The reason why I killed the princess should be obvious enough. She took you away from me and your kids. You needed to feel pain just like me. Your kids and I needed you more than her. Don’t even try to tell me that you did it to help us. Killing King Creon was also your fault. If he hadn’t given you to the princess then we wouldn’t be in this mess. He was trying to drive me out of this country when I had no place to go. He was a vile king. The death of my dear children was all your fault. I had to kill the princess and the king but if I didn’t kill the children then they would have to spend their whole life looking over their shoulder and hiding from people who want to get revenge on me for what I’ve done because of you. Everything that I’ve done was because of you. I sacrificed my family to make you safe and well and you repay me by marrying another women and neglecting me and your children. You will suffer greatly for what you did and you will never be able to get revenge on me. I will be gone.
From,
Medea
Dear Medea,
I am not the horrid man you accuse me to be. Everything that you did was your own choice. I could’ve gotten the Golden Fleece without your help. It would’ve been harder but I would’ve done it. Your father would’ve never caught up to my ship; it was protected by the Gods. Killing your brother was useless and killing King Pelias was also very useless because in the end I didn’t even become the king. So far you have done all these things for nothing and all these things you have chosen to do is not the least bit my fault. There was no need to kill the dear princess. I married her so that we could be wealthy and cared for in this new land. I did it for the sake of you and the children. It was a sacrifice I had to make and a sacrifice for our family. I love you and I would never marry another woman unless it benefited you and the children as well. As for King Creon, his murder wasn’t my fault either you chose to give a poisoned dress to the princess and what father wouldn’t hold the dead body of his daughter for one last time. You are one evil woman. Nothing is worse than destroying a man’s family. He was only kicking you out of the country for the safety of me and his daughter, the princess. He knew that you were angry by the marriage of me and the princess. But as I’ve said before, it was for the good of you and the children. You shouldn’t have been granted the gift of free will for your will is to do great evil to those who you think did you wrong which I have not.
From,
Jason
