• Everyone deals with a sea of unstructured information
that they can barely cope with
• Amount of relevant data to any situation is way
beyond human brain’s capacity and speed
• State-of-the-art search tools are hopelessly inadequate

• We have attacked the very hard problem of
extracting meaning from natural language text like
humans do:
o “…Make sure you order the lamb. It’s the chef’s specialty (even though
it’s off the menu)…”

learning engine extracts all instances of the
following systematically from data:
1. What entity is being talked about? E.g., a movie, book, hotel,
stock, product.
2. What attribute of the entity is being talked about? E.g., acting in a
movie, writing style in a book, revenue projections of some
company.
3. What is the sentiment being expressed about this attribute? E.g.,
lobby of the hotel is small, the actor in this movie is not talented,
this company is expected to double its revenue next year.
