Question

How Marina Bay serves as a model to the Principles of
Governance deployed to help Singapore sustain its growth
 in the 21st century?
Marina City Gallery
 Grey buildings – Already Built
 White buildings – That are to be built
 This gallery shows how the government plans to develop Singapore
using their foresight to ensure that every piece of land is being fully
  used and not wasted.
Marina Bay Sands

 Attracted more tourists
 Greatly improved Singapore’s economy
 Created more jobs for Singaporeans
 Attracted foreign investors to start their businesses in Singapore
Global Brands in Marina Bay Sands
Local Brands in Marina Bay Sands
Marina Bay Sands

 Has a casino that attracted tourists and also allows Singaporeans
to go to a casino without going overseas.
 Even though there are many negative feedbacks about the building
of casinos in Singapore, Mr. Lee Kuan Yew continued with this
idea as it can be a great boost to Singapore’s economy and
reassured people with stringent social safeguards
 This shows how Mr. Lee Kuan Yew has a great foresight,
listened to the people’s voices and do what he thinks is right and
may not be very popular with the people.
Marina Bay Link Mall
Underground Mall
One of the government’s idea for conserving the already
 scarce land of Singapore.
Attracted foreign investors, therefore more jobs created
Through this, it is shown that the government had a far
foresight that Singapore will one day run out of usable
land to develop and thus thought of creative and new ways
 to conserve land in Singapore.
Eco-Friendly Structures

 Breeze shelters with motion sensors that will only activate the fans
  when someone is under it.
 Powered by solar panels instilled in them.
 Escalators with sensors that slow down when nobody is on it.
 Helps conserve energy.
 This eco-friendly structures show how the government predicted
that the world would run out of resources to generate power through
fossil fuels and is also doing a part to help stop global warming.
Clifford Pier
 Ceased operation on 1st April 2006
 From a pier to a hotel
 Brought about economic growth by attracting tourists over to
  Singapore
 This shows how the government makes use of the already available
structures to build now buildings to cut down on the resources
needed to construct a new building.
