Vladek recalls Chapter 4 of Maus 1, where he hides from the Germans in 1940s Poland with the help of his friend Mr. Ilzecki. Mr. Ilzecki sends his son to live with a Polish family for safety while Vladek hides at Anja's father's house in the registration area. The chapter focuses on Vladek and his family's efforts to escape and survive the Germans during World War II, told through Vladek recounting the past to his son Art in the present.
