Math and Science
By: Kalie McIntosh, Andrea Barnes,
Anthony Lawhon, and Derek Lomax
Definition
• Mathematics- “the systematic treatment of magnitude,
relationships between figures and forms, and relations
between quantities expressed symbolically.”
• Science- “a branch of knowledge or study dealing with a
body of facts or truths systematically arranged and
showing the operation of general laws.”
Importance
• More students who master high-level mathematics and
science pursue STEM-related careers.
• Encourages critical thinking skills through students use of
experiments and mathematical thinking, data analysis, and
projects.
• This is a building block to the multi-dimensional abilities
required of them in 21st century education.
Role of Math and Science
• These skills are used in the real-world everyday.
• Mathematical methods have helped discovery in science.
• There is an increasing importance of mathematics in medical
science “ genetics, DNA sequences, and cell growth”
Five tools to promote pillar
1. Using statistics of various sports
2. Weight loss and calorie calculations
3. Collecting scientific data and recording observations in science journals
4. Implement math and science into other educational subject matters
5. Have hands-on activities that apply these concepts and interest children.
How it applies to 21st Century Education
• Math and Science are one component that makes up the overall 21st century
education
• These are important skills to have to successfully go through daily life and to
have certain successful careers.
Application
• Football
• Math: Statistics
• Science: Concept of Force and Energy

Role of Technology
• Measuring Tools/ Fitness Apps/example: pedometer, heart rate bar
• Facebook: Educational and informational for our class football team
• Arts and Bots
Conclusion
• Having Math and Science knowledge and skills is an important part of the
21st century learning. These skills are building blocks to the multi-dimensional
abilities required of students in education and careers today.
