Hahnemann was a German physician in the late 18th century who founded homeopathy. He became interested in using minute doses of substances that cause symptoms similar to an illness as a way to treat that illness. Through extensive experimentation and observation, he developed homeopathy as a medical system based on this principle of using highly diluted substances to stimulate the body's natural self-healing abilities.
