1. I think that undertaking the Integrated Masters programme would be the perfect way to
broaden my horizons when considering options post-bachelor’s degree. Both in terms of
considering a career path, or perhaps other branches of education further down the line. It
would further develop upon and improve upon all the skills and knowledge I have gathered in
my two and a half years on my course thus far. This will help me gain even more experience
and understanding of areas such as scientific research and scientific communication when
creating and presenting my poster. These are all areas that will be crucial when being
considered by employers or other academic staff when looking at a PhD or master’s degrees
further down the line. As of right now, my current career aspirations are in the field of
forensic analysis, with a particular interest in forensic toxicology. I find the idea of using what
I have learned during my time at Sheffield Hallam in order to assist in solving or assisting in
solving a crime fascinating. I find poisons and toxins interesting, and how they interact with
the body. So perhaps I could perhaps consider fields of ways to detect these compounds in
the body, or methods to counteract them.
My preferred research area would be under Bioanalytical science, particularly the forensic
toxicology and sports drug testing. This would be a perfect opportunity as it almost perfectly
links in with my career aspirations, especially the forensic toxicology and hair testing. I
understand that Dr Tom Bassindale also has career experience in the field that I aspire to
follow, which would give a perfect chance to learn from someone who has direct familiarity
with the field. I think that the current research on using hair samples to detect poisons and
drugs in a body is incredibly interesting. An area of research related to this would be very
much preferrable due to its relevance to my current future aspirations.
