The Muskingum County Master Gardeners initiated a grant program in 2004 that provides funding for horticultural projects in K-12 classrooms. Teachers submit grant applications to the Master Gardeners for projects up to $100, and a committee reviews the applications and recommends projects for funding. To date, 26 teachers have received a total of $2,397 in grants over four years for projects involving over 525 students. Funded projects include establishing gardens, growing vegetables, and field trips, helping teach students about plant life cycles, ecosystems, and photosynthesis through hands-on learning experiences.
