Martin Luther King Jr. was a prominent civil rights leader in the 1950s and 1960s who fought against racial segregation and discrimination. He gave his iconic "I Have a Dream" speech in 1963 and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964 for his nonviolent methods. Tragically, King was assassinated in 1968 in Memphis, Tennessee at the young age of 39.
