The £380 million Highways England project, which began in
2014, will replace the existing dual carriageway with a new
three lane, 18 mile long motorway slated to open later this year.
Once completed, the A1 Leeming to Barton scheme will
create a continuous motorway, standard route between
London and Newcastle (including the M1 and A1M). This
will reduce journey times, improve safety and reduce
congestion on this section.

Highlights
Over the last three years, DBi Services UK staff, led by
Supervisor, Mal Asgill, has worked closely with principal
contractor, Carillion Morgan Sindall on a range of
activities during the building of the new motorway sections.
Works. The process has involved the application of permanent
markings, symbols and road studs, on the motorway as well as
slip roads and roundabouts.
Flexibility. DBi Services UK has remained flexible throughout the
course of work, adapting to weather delays by lining and
inserting road studs during evening as well as daytime hours.

DBi Services UK was engaged to line approximately 1,000 park-
ing spaces and over 4,000 metres of assorted lining; “double
yellows,” hatching, warning lines and other elements. *Almost
3,000 m2 of High Friction Surfacing was laid.
Park & Ride is an important element of the Transport Strategy
for Leeds, as parking capacity for the city centre is vital to the
economy of the city.

A high-frequency, express bus service using comfortable modern
vehicles will use existing and additional bus priority measures to
give an average journey time of 15 minutes to the city centre
from the Temple Green site.
Stops between Temple Green and the city centre will serve the
south bank area before reaching the final stop on Boar Lane
in the City Centre, convenient for Trinity Quarter and other city
centre shops and offices.

ATM staff, overseen by Vanessa Webster & Andy Rumbles,
is amid the installation of over 10,000 m of assorted fencing,
including security perimeter, animal, and high visibility fencing
across 2 sites (Doves Nest and Lockwood Beck). Set in the
heart of the North Yorkshire Moor National Park, the sites
are located to the South of Whitby.
The construction of the mine and infrastructure will take
approximately 5 years. Sirius Minerals said, once completed, the
mine would deliver at least 1,000 permanent jobs to the region.
To minimize the impact of transporting 10 million tons of minerals
a year from the mine, a 23 mile (37km) tunnel measuring 4.3m in
diameter will be bored from Doves Nest to South Tees, allowing
underground conveyor transport of Polyhalite.

Highlights
Challenges. Erection of some fencing was delayed by; dense
undergrowth, bushes, small trees, and existing fences, which
was cleared in order for the new fence line to be established.
The fencing scheme is part of the enabling works to secure both
sites, as building commences. Fencing works started on site in
May 2017 and are scheduled to be completed in August.
