Firm start by European markets and recovery in some Asian stocks, helped domestic bourses scale some of the last week’s lost
ground. European stocks rose after European financial leaders approved an 85-billion-euro, or $112.53 billion, aid package for
debt-crisis-stricken Ireland. Index heavyweight Reliance Industries (RIL) gained over 3%. Other index heavyweights -- ICICI Bank,
Larsen & Toubro and Infosys also gained. Bargain hunting emerged after a four-day steep slide triggered by a bribe-for-loan
scandal. All the sectoral indices ended in positive zone.
Most metal stocks rose on fresh buying. Auto stocks gained in anticipation of robust November 2010 monthly sales. IT stocks
rose on upbeat US economic data. The market breadth was negative as some small and mid-cap stocks succumbed to selling
pressure. Mid-cap and Small-cap indices underperformed the Sensex.
The BSE 30-share Sensex was up 269 points or +1.38% at 19405 while NSE 50-share Nifty ended the day at 5830 up 78 points or
+1.36%.
Stocks Performance
Fertiliser stocks: Chambal (+10.3%), National Fert. (+7.7%), Nagarjuna Fert. (+6.6%)
Fertiliser stocks rallied on the news came that the ministry is expected to meet on 3rd
December to discuss urea deregulation.
Auto stocks: Maruti (+2.9%), Exide (+1.6%), Tata Motors (+1.6%)
Auto stocks were in demand ahead of the November 2010 monthly sales which are
anticipated to be robust following strong festive demand.
Metal Stocks: Sesa Goa (+3.6%), JSW Steel (+2.3%), SAIL (+2.3%)
Most metal stocks advanced on bargain hunting after a recent slide.
IT Stocks: Wipro (+2.9%), TCS (+1.8%), Mphasis (+1.4%)
Software stocks gained on recent upbeat US economic data. US is the biggest market for
Indian IT exporters.
