Marcus Roberts, the chief executive of DrugScope, gave a presentation on building recovery in communities at the Recovery Festival housing event. He emphasized the importance of enabling a drug-free or medically assisted individual recovery journey, developing recovery capital through champions, and facilitating reintegration into communities through housing and employment. A CEO of a treatment service stated that effective housing solutions are needed to provide reasonable accommodation access in every local area, which is a prerequisite for individual recovery progress. The presentation highlighted that overcoming drug or alcohol dependence is difficult and our ambitions for recovery should be tempered with realism, as many with dependence have pre-existing issues and can incur significant collateral health harms.
