The document discusses the importance of sleep for physical and mental health, noting that most adults need 7-9 hours per night and that consistently getting less than 5 hours increases health risks. It also promotes various Campus Recreation Services programs and events at Northern Arizona University, including a Get Rec'd fitness class series, a Tough Louie adventure race, and a student Bucket List program to encourage participation in campus activities.

Sleep Is More Important Than We thought
Did you know sleeping 5 hours or less may increase mortality risk by 15%?
(Fitness Journal) It is no secret that sleep is correlated to a healthy lifestyle. In
order for our body to fully function properly, most adults need 7 - 9 hours of
sleep a night. Consistently depriving yourself of this goal may increase your risk
for immune system complications, obesity, cognitive impairment and much
more. Sleep also helps your brain perform properly. When you’re sleeping the
brain is preparing for the next day by forming new pathways to help you learn.
Sleep also provides a time for healing. “Sleep is a quiescent period where the
cells are doing a lot of repairing. Your hormones act differently when you sleep,
and your immune system as well,” says Lisa Shives, MD, DABSM, founder of
Northshore medicine in Chicago. Below are some problems research has shown
increases with lack of sleep:
1. Cold-causing rhino virus
2. Heart disease
3. Obesity
4. High Blood Pressure

The Mission: To develop a safe and
inclusive cycling culture at NAU
in order to promote cycling as a
healthy and sustainable form of
transportation.
The HUB is an on-campus space
designed for students to come and
educate themselves about bicycle
maintenance. The HUB is designed
to be a resource for students to
use, in order to promote cycling as
a form of healthy and sustainable
transportation. A common scenario
with on campus cycling is that
students who do not know how
to maintain their bicycle or are in
need of a repair that they are unable
to asses or fix, will stop riding. Hub
stands to empower and educate
these kind of students and keep
them on their bicycles!
Hours Of Operation:
Monday - Thursday 2pm to 5pm
Friday 12pm to 5pm
Location: The Outdoors Base
Camp, accessible through the back
side of the HLC.
