This poem is written from the perspective of a child talking to their mother. The child acknowledges that they leave fingerprints on all the furniture in the house because they are still young. However, the child says they are growing up each day and will soon be an adult, so the fingerprints will disappear. The child leaves a special fingerprint for their mother to remember what their tiny fingers looked like before they grew up. The poem ends expressing love and affection for their mother.
