Daragang MagayonThe myth of Daragang Mayon is a timeless tale of love that almost every Bicolano knows. It is the story of
Magayon (beautiful maiden), the only daughter of chieftain Makusog, and Ulap, the brave son of a chieftain
from another region. They fall in love and are engaged when Pagtuga, a jealous suitor foils their plans to
marry. Pagtuga kidnaps Makusog and threatens to kill him unless Magayon consents to marry him instead of
her beloved Ulap. To her great grief, Magayon gives up Ulap to save her father’s life. Magayon and
Pagtuga are about to be wed when Ulap disrupts the wedding and slays Pagtuga. Magayon rushes into the
arms of Ulap but is struck by an arrow. As she lay dying in his arms, Magayon is fatally stabbed in the back
by one of Pagtuga’s men. The ill-starred lovers are laid to rest, together for eternity, in a mound of earth that
grew bigger and bigger with the passage of time, eventually becoming the volcano that is known as Mayon.

Magsimula Ka, The MusicalA revival of the original 80's Pinoy pop musicale (which this writer almost joined about 20 years ago were
it not for a mega-authoritarian set of parents, hahaha!) that revolves mainly around a young man (and his
friends) bent on joining a singing contest and pursuing his interests in music, despite the proscriptions of a
strict father. The original production jumpstarted the careers, as performing artists, of Robert Seña, Isay
Alvarez and Tricia Amper, now the producers of the revival. Set during the 1980s, it is a play for all ages as
it targets the youth with all their ideals, ambitions and triumphs, with references to the now seemingly crazy
Pinoy pop culture then. The young of today will identify with the lead characters and ask of themselves what
will become of them. The young of yesterday will look back, reminisce and wonder at what they could have
become had they followed another path the one they really wanted to take.
Atang: Isang Dulang May MusikaGia Almonte (Ayen Munji-Laurel and Kalila Aguilos) visits Atang (Shamaine Centenera-Buencamino and
Frances Makil-Ignacio) in her home in Gagalangin, Tondo in Manila to do research about Atang’s
sarsuwela, kundiman and clarifications on the different intrigues (“tsismis”) that Atang lived during the heyday
of her career as the queen of Tagalog sarsuwela and kundiman. Upon meeting Atang, Gia travels back in
time through the sarsuwela (such as “Jugar con Fuego”, “Dalagang Bukid” and “Ang Kiri”) which Atang was
part of and kundiman (such as “Bituing Marikit”, “Nasaan Ka Irog?”, “Ang Masayang Dalaga”, and
“Nabasag ang Banga”) which she popularized.
