The document discusses several approaches for efficiently processing large graphs distributed across clusters. It describes TAO, developed by Facebook for read-optimized queries on social graphs; Horton, a C# query execution engine; Pregel, a framework for batch graph processing; Trinity from Microsoft for online and offline computation; and Unicorn, Facebook's search backend based on Hadoop. Each system is analyzed in terms of its data model, API, architecture, fault tolerance, and performance characteristics. The document concludes by comparing the frameworks and discussing opportunities for future work in query languages and unified frameworks.
This document provides information about different types of vertebrates including their defining characteristics and examples. It discusses the five main types of vertebrates: mammals, birds, fish, reptiles and amphibians. For each group, it outlines some of their key attributes such as how they breathe, their temperature regulation, habitat and more. It also includes review questions to test comprehension.

Sacred Celtic rituals discussed in the document include Samhain (Halloween) and Beltane (May Day). The document also describes the Carmina Gadelica, an ancient Celtic book containing prayers and rituals, and the role of Druids as religious prophets and leaders of rituals in ancient Celtic times, including possessing magical powers and infusing protective spells into swords.
The document discusses various types of attacks on recommender systems, such as profile injection attacks where malicious users try to manipulate the recommendations. It analyzes the robustness of collaborative filtering recommender algorithms to different attack strategies like random attacks, bandwagon attacks, and segment attacks. The results show that collaborative filtering is vulnerable to profile injection attacks but that its performance can be improved through detection and defense techniques that identify suspicious profiles and reduce their influence on the recommendations.
The FP7 CODE project will be presented at the Big Data Benchmarking Community call. Here, a high-level overview shall introduce CODEs vision and show the progress after 6-months.
This document discusses real-time distributed data analysis and frameworks like Storm. It introduces the lambda architecture for working with big data, which has a speed layer, serving layer, and batch layer. The batch layer stores immutable data and precomputes batch views using Hadoop. The serving layer provides random access to these views using systems like Impala. The speed layer compensates for high-latency batch views using fast, incremental algorithms like Storm. It also describes how Twitter evolved from queues and workers to using Storm for scalable, fault-tolerant real-time analytics.
AIR: Architecture for Interoperable Retrieval on Distributed and Heterogeneou...Florian Stegmaier
Nowadays multimedia data is produced and consumed at an ever increasing rate. Similarly to this trend, diverse storage approaches for multimedia data have been introduced. These observations lead to the fact that distributed and heterogeneous multimedia repositories exist whereas an unified and easy access to the stored multimedia data is not given.
This paper presents an architecture, named AIR, that offers the aformentioned retrieval possibilites. To ensure interoperability, AIR makes use of recently issued standards, namely the MPEG Query Format (MPQF) (multimedia query language) and the JPSearch transformation rules (metadata interoperability).
