 Located in the lower eastern corner of the indian
subcontinent
 The state of Manipur shares 352 km of international
boundary with Myanmar and lies south of Nagaland
,North of Mizoram and east of Burma and west of
Assam

History of Manipur
Manipur became a princely state under British rule in 1891, the last of
the independent states to be incorporated into British India. During
the Second World War, Manipur was the scene of battles between
Japanese and Allied forces. The Japanese were beaten back before
the Alliescould enter Imphal. This proved to be one of the turning
points of the War.
After the war, the Manipur Constitution Act, 1947, established a
democratic form of government with the Maharaja as the
Executive Head and an elected legislature. In 1949, Maharaja
Budhachandra was summoned to Shillong, capital of the Indian
province of Meghalaya where he signed a Treaty of Accession
merging the kingdom into India. Thereafter the legislative
assembly was dissolved and Manipur became part of the Republic
of India in October, 1949.[1] It was made a union territory in
1956[2] and a full-fledged state in 1972.[3] Mohammed Alimuddin
became the first Chief Minister in 1972 of the State of Manipur. Last king of Manipur

• Manipur as the name suggests is a land of jewels its one of the seven sister
states of india (Assam,Manipur,Mizoram,Meghalaya,Sikkim,ArunachalPradesh,Tripura)

• Population: 2.722 million (2011)

Main Attractions
• War Cementry ; The Memories of the british and indian soldiers who
died during world war second these war cementries are managed by
the commonwealth war graves commission and every year thousand
of people came to visit this place its also known as imphal war
cementry.
• SHAHEED MINAR; Shaheed Minar, an imposing structure in
the heart of the city, epitomises the invincible patriotic spirit
of Manipuris who sacrificed their lives in the Anglo-Manipuri
War of 1891. Also known as the Martyr’s Memorial, this
towering minar is located at the northern end of the Bir
Tikendrajit Park. Its also known as martyr”s gate and its
situated in imphal
 Kangla palace; The Palace of Kangla is an old
palace at Imphal in Manipur. It was situated on both sides
of the bank of the Imphal River. But now it remains only on
the western side of the bank. Only the ruins remain now.
Kangla means "dry land" in old Meitei.
 RED HILL ; Red hill is the spot where a fierce
battle took place between the british and Japanese
forces in world war second
FLORA AND FAUNA
• Blessed with an amazing variety of flora and
fauna, 67% of the geographical area of
Manipur are hill tracts covered with green
forests some of the most beautiful and precious
blooms and orchids are abound in their natural
habitat spreading their beauty and colour,
stunning the eye that is not used to seeing them
in such profusion.Manipur has alpine forests of
pines, grasslands and meadows at Dzuko and
Shirui. The Shirui Dancing Deer form only a
small part of the rich natural heritage of
Manipur. In Flora Shirui Lily and many
medicinal plants are also found in manipur

National Parks
• There are two national parks present in Manipur
• Keibul Lamjao National Park; The Keibul Lamjao National Park is a national park in
the Bishnupur district of the state of Manipur in India. It is 40 km2 (15.4 sq mi) in area, the only
floating park in the world, located in North East India, and an integral part of Loktak Lake. This
National Park is established in March 28 1977. it is the world’s only floating national park this national
park is preserving endangered specie called shirui dancing deer
Sirohi National Park
• Shirui National Park is a national park
located in the state of Manipur in India. It
was established in 1982.Among the
animals that make their homes here
include the tragopan, the tiger and
leopard. It is here that the famous shirui
lily (Lilium maclineae) grows naturally.
The main peak of Shirui abounds with
flowers during the monsoon and it is a
veritable paradise.
Culture of Manipur
• Manipur, a beautiful northeastern state of
India, boasts of a rich culture. In the
company of vibrant dances and music,
the Manipuris find ample of reasons in
their fairs & festivals for celebration.
Though the lovely people are
superstitious sometimes, their belief in
religion and customs is certainly
creditable. The people of Manipur are
very creative and their artistic abilities are
best seen in their handloom &
handicrafts.
HANDICRAFTS OF MANIPUR
RELEGION
LANGUAGES
• Meitei-lon, also called Manipur, is the native language of the state of
Manipur. Throughout the state, people speak and understand this
language. Moreover, Meitei-lon is used as the medium of instruction up
to the undergraduate level in Manipur. Bishnupriya Manipuri is another
language which is spoken and understood by people. Many local
dialects are also prevalent among the tribals. Hindi is not very common
like other parts of the country though it is understood by many people.
English is mostly used for official purposes.
DANCES
• The true culture of
Manipur livens up in
its dance and drama.
The Raas Lila (love
story of Radha and
Krishna) dominates
the state's performing
arts.
CUSINES
• The former Manipuri fine dining was exactly a 'sit-
down' affair, along with banana-leaf plates. Rice
forms the staple diet of people. Manipuri cuisine is
rich in non-vegetarian delicacies. Whether meat or
fish, rice is consumed liberally by one and all.
Kabok, a traditional specialty, is actually fried rice
with lots of vegetables. Iromba is another fermented
delicacy, which is actually an eclectic combination
of fish, vegetables and bamboo

  • 4. History of Manipur Manipur became a princely state under British rule in 1891, the last of the independent states to be incorporated into British India. During the Second World War, Manipur was the scene of battles between Japanese and Allied forces. The Japanese were beaten back before the Alliescould enter Imphal. This proved to be one of the turning points of the War. After the war, the Manipur Constitution Act, 1947, established a democratic form of government with the Maharaja as the Executive Head and an elected legislature. In 1949, Maharaja Budhachandra was summoned to Shillong, capital of the Indian province of Meghalaya where he signed a Treaty of Accession merging the kingdom into India. Thereafter the legislative assembly was dissolved and Manipur became part of the Republic of India in October, 1949.[1] It was made a union territory in 1956[2] and a full-fledged state in 1972.[3] Mohammed Alimuddin became the first Chief Minister in 1972 of the State of Manipur. National Parks • There are two national parks present in Manipur • Keibul Lamjao National Park; The Keibul Lamjao National Park is a national park in the Bishnupur district of the state of Manipur in India. It is 40 km2 (15.4 sq mi) in area, the only floating park in the world, located in North East India, and an integral part of Loktak Lake. This National Park is established in March 28 1977. it is the world’s only floating national park this national park is preserving endangered specie called shirui dancing deer

It was established in 1982.Among the animals that make their homes here include the tragopan, the tiger and leopard. It is here that the famous shirui lily (Lilium maclineae) grows naturally. The main peak of Shirui abounds with flowers during the monsoon and it is a veritable paradise.

Moreover, Meitei-lon is used as the medium of instruction up to the undergraduate level in Manipur. Bishnupriya Manipuri is another language which is spoken and understood by people. Many local dialects are also prevalent among the tribals. Hindi is not very common like other parts of the country though it is understood by many people. English is mostly used for official purposes.
