This document discusses managing information systems and technologies. It defines an information system as a system that acquires, organizes, stores, manipulates, and transmits information, while information technology provides the means to do these things. Rapid advances in information technology greatly impact information systems and managers. There are three main types of management information systems discussed: transaction processing systems, operations information systems, and the traditional organizational hierarchy system.
