When used incorrectly it’s increasingly easy to make things much worse for you and your team, and do it at scale. For example, while microservices can be used to effectively isolate functionality, increase the speed of delivery, and help scale your team it can also be a way to inefficiently duplicate functionality and create single points of failure. I’ll share anti-patterns and corresponding best practices based on my experience building application infrastructure and platforms, as well as the applications which are deployed to them.

How might we architect systems that supports this free-roaming? How do we think about transient information architectures and containers for experiences that are only defined in the moment?
Considering informations systems and theory, the worlds we create, inhabit and navigate, and a case study looking at commercial application, this session will explore our interactions within those systems, how we manage transience through data and information architectures and how we might effectively design those systems - to create experiences based on the relationship between context and content.

What if an actor could determine their own flow through a system? What if that system could dynamically create pathways to support free wandering, signposting just enough to enable discovery without direction? And what if the flow through the system was determined by the actor, but the system could create the most desired of all possible paths?
As designers, we can imagine a system where meaning can be derived by the alignment of data and context, based on the current interactions: a transient information architecture where the arrangement of things and the relationships between them is determined in the moment. A blueprint for free roaming. An intelligent guide. If this, then that.
But we only consider the experiential layer of a system that needs to understand and arrange data in response to those interactions. What we need is to architect a system that can use its knowledge of data relationships to create meaning at the point of interaction, because data only becomes information when you ask it to arrange itself.
And the way you ask it to arrange itself is by compiling a query that determines the data that is to be arranged and a context within which the arrangement makes sense. How do we architect the system so that it can determine the most likely linking of data? How do we architect the data so that the system can make sense of it?

Doron REU Final Paper
This document proposes a smart city surveillance system that utilizes vehicle-mounted cameras and sensors to crowdsource real-time data about urban events and conditions. Vehicles would collect image and location data using cameras and GPS and upload it to a cloud server. The server would store the data and make it accessible to the public. The system aims to provide detailed, efficient monitoring of cities to benefit residents and officials. It was tested and shown to perform well under increasing workload.

Programmed Aging and the Emerging Reality of Anti-Aging Medicine
This presentation describes current theories that support the idea that biological mechanisms or programs purposely cause human senescence because doing so produced an evolutionary advantage. This development suggests that aging is itself a treatable condition and suggests exciting new medical approaches for treating highly age-related diseases such as cancer, heart disease, and Alzheimer’s disease. Anti-aging medical practices now exist that are exploiting the new methods. 19pp.

How to get more twitter followers
This document provides 7 ways to grow a Twitter following. It explains that getting retweets correlates with faster growth, as large accounts with over 100k followers tend to grow the fastest. Some sketchy ways to grow include autofollowing/followbacking and "the yank" which artificially inflates the following. More legitimate ways are to auto followback those who follow you, manually follow many accounts and auto unfollow non-followers, share content with super relevant audiences, use a profile photo of your face with a big smile, and write a descriptive bio with relevant keywords and location.
