Internal notes for facilitator


Managing Change

   Timing: 10 – 20 minutes
   Group size: Any size
   Materials needed: Flip Chart.

   Aim: To provide group with an opportunity to study the process of change and show
   how resistance might be lessened in the future

   Procedure:
      • Divide group into subsets of four to five people, preferably from different
        teams, groups, or schools
      • Then ask the groups to discuss these questions with their team members
            o Think of a recent situation in which some kind of change was brought
               forth in your team.
            o Was the change resisted?
            o Why or why not?
            o Looking back, what might have made that change easier to buy into, (or
               sell)?
      • Allow sufficient time for discussion, then use random reports

   Discussion Questions:
      1. Did you find similarity in any of your changes?
      2. How many of you found no resistance to the change? Tell about it.
      3. Why is change so often scrutinized?
      4. What are some of the things that might make your next change easier to sell
         (or buy into)?
