The document discusses the "Making Peace" photo exhibition curated by Ashley Woods. The exhibition aims to use powerful photographs to inspire viewers to promote positive change for peace. It presents 124 photos from over 10,000 selected that cover the last century of photography related to peace topics like disarmament, human rights, and sustainable development. The exhibition organizer hopes the photos will inform and empower viewers rather than leave them feeling disengaged.
1) Representatives from the B-Gifted Foundation in Sierra Leone were invited to participate in the 2015 United Nations International Day of Peace, with the theme of "Partnerships for Peace – Dignity for All."
2) At the event, there were discussions about the importance of peace in achieving development goals and addressing issues like climate change and poverty. Speakers also emphasized the importance of addressing the root causes of violence.
3) The B-Gifted Foundation representatives were able to network with other peacebuilders and discuss their efforts to promote peace in Sierra Leone and beyond through innovative programs.
Green Thought Leaders realize that current business practices are unsustainable and that transitioning to a green economy requires growing new systems and ideas over time, built upon the foundations laid by previous pioneers. The document profiles several influential thinkers in the sustainability field like Gro Harlem Brundtland, Hazel Henderson, Herman Daly, and John Elkington who have helped define concepts like sustainable development and the triple bottom line. It also highlights business leaders taking practical steps towards sustainability through initiatives at companies like Interface, Herman Miller, and Ceres. The future requires both holding onto established knowledge and innovating for a sustainable world through broad, organization-wide leadership.
Disaster tourism involves visiting sites where natural or human-made disasters have occurred. It can have both positive and negative impacts. This document discusses disaster tourism and proposes guidelines for an ethics code. It defines disaster and dark tourism, provides examples of popular disaster sites, and discusses push/pull factors and potential problems. The key frameworks of "do no harm", risk/benefit analysis, and utilitarianism are examined. Existing tourism ethics codes are summarized, and Kelman proposes four preliminary guidelines for a disaster tourism ethics code focusing on safety, risk imposition, following authorities, and donations.

This document summarizes research conducted on student perceptions of sales careers and a potential sales program at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. A survey was administered to 121 business students to understand their attitudes towards sales, salespeople, and intentions to pursue sales education. Most respondents were juniors or seniors, and over 30% had sales experience. The research found that students see sales as rewarding but have negative views of salespeople. It was recommended to offer an introductory sales class to freshmen and sophomores to introduce them to the field and potentially increase interest in the sales program.

Headless Drupal certainly is popular, so is fast and maintainable code. This session will talk about JavaScript in general, presenting the latest news about the language and it's ecosystem, and Drupal in particular, exposing how Drupal could benefit from the language's evolution.
This session will present news from around the frontend world and will be used to talk about:
what developers want Drupal JS to do (or not do!),
approaches for the Refactor of Doom (RD) that need to happen for JavaScript to be unit-testable (ES6 modules, patterns, etc.),
intermediate steps to make some amount of testing possible prior to the RD,
tools aimed at Drupal JS developers (eslint plugins, nodejs utilities for Drupal, etc.)
frameworks,
how to make decoupled implementations easier (aka. giving back some brains to headless implementations)
anything else that is important to you.
Core frontend is vastly better than it used to be, so much so that going headless because Drupal is a pain to work with is not an argument that can be made easily. Help us make that argument stronger to prevent people from loosing their head and drive projects to the ground.

The document discusses banks and central banks. It defines a bank as a financial institution that accepts deposits and makes loans. A central bank is the national bank that oversees a country's monetary system and implements monetary policy. The central bank has several functions, including issuing currency, acting as a bank for the government, overseeing commercial bank reserves, managing foreign exchange, acting as a lender of last resort, and controlling the money supply through interest rates and reserve requirements. The central bank uses both direct tools like interest rates and lending as well as indirect tools like open market operations and reserve requirements to implement monetary policy and achieve its targets of stabilizing prices and promoting employment.

Malala yousufzai and kailash satyrathi against human trafficking by anurag dashanuragcooolz
This document summarizes information about Malala Yousafzai and Kailash Satyarthi and their work against human trafficking. It discusses that Kailash Satyarthi is an Indian children's rights activist who founded the Bachpan Bachao Andolan to rescue over 80,000 child slaves and advocate for an end to child labor. It also explains that Malala Yousafzai is a Pakistani activist who advocated for girls' education and survived an assassination attempt by the Taliban at age 15, becoming a prominent figure promoting education internationally.
Eleanor Roosevelt influenced many New Deal policies during her time as First Lady. She advocated for programs that helped women, African Americans, the unemployed, and poor families. She pressed FDR to create the National Youth Administration and relief programs. ER also championed civil rights, workers' rights, and federal support for housing, arts, and labor protections. Through her investigations and lobbying, ER played a key role in shaping many of FDR's social programs and policies to assist Americans suffering from the Depression.

"Towards meeting the Sustainable Development Goals 2030"
This document summarizes research on Western Muslims who have volunteered to fight for ISIS in Syria and Iraq. It provides historical context of Americans volunteering to fight in foreign wars. It discusses polls finding that many U.S. Muslims feel there is a "war on Islam" and experience discrimination. While only a small percentage justify suicide attacks, this could equate to around 80,000 people among U.S. Muslims. The document suggests these feelings could make some Western Muslims more receptive to extreme messages and more open to volunteering abroad. It raises doubts about current approaches that criminalize and block would-be volunteers.
The document lists notable international days in November and December that relate to human rights issues such as children's rights, violence against women, AIDS awareness, disability rights, volunteerism, anti-corruption efforts, and human rights film festivals. These international days are observed by the United Nations and other organizations to raise awareness and advocate for marginalized groups.

Each Friday, the village's men, women and children march peacefully towards the spring but are met by Israeli soldiers who use tear gas, rubber bullets, stun grenades, and skunk water against the protesters. The village has faced injuries and deaths of protesters from the violent response of the Israeli forces over the past few years in their continued demonstrations against the loss of their land and water.

Social media and images are powerful tools for covering social justice issues and raising awareness. Graphic photos can arouse strong emotions but also advocate for issues, which some see as crossing a line into activism. While vivid images are shared widely and help people understand crises, they may fail to explain underlying causes and instead just show human suffering. There is ongoing debate around the ethics of publishing graphic photos, with arguments that they inform but also could be seen as distasteful.
A2 Collective Identity Essay Plan - representation of women in the mediastmarysmediastudies
Plan prepared for a wall display on the A2 Collective Identity exam question 'The media do not construct reality, they merely offer a window on the world.' This is based on case studies of the representation of women in the media.
The document is a speech given by Mr. Joseph Akagha at an event organized by the UNESCO Club of WAIS on the International Day of Peace.
The speech discusses the importance of peace and how it can be achieved. It defines peace and explains why peace is so important and valued among all people and religions. It also discusses current threats to peace like terrorism and weapons of mass destruction.
Finally, the speech outlines how a partnership for peace, as called for by the UN, can help achieve peace. It says states, organizations, and individuals all have a role to play in supporting global peace efforts and building a culture of peace.
The media's portrayal of beauty has negatively impacted society by promoting unrealistic standards. Studies show this causes body dissatisfaction, especially in young people, and can lead to bullying. Both men and women now feel pressure to attain the idealized versions of beauty promoted by social media, television, movies and magazines. This paper will explore how the media influences perceptions of beauty and how some feel compelled to change their appearance to avoid social stigma.
1. MAKING PEACE
Can a photograph inspire us into action?
Ashley Woods, curator of the Making Peace
exhibition thinks it can.
I
t's important to realize that a memorable
photograph doesn't happen by itself.
Firstly, a photographer chooses to press a
buttonattherightmoment.Then,aneditor
decides whether to publish it or not. My hope as
a curator, is that after presenting certain images
to an audience they decide not to be bystanders
anymore, but begin to participate actively in the
world around them, promoting positive change.
It's a chain reaction that can start with a single,
powerful image. A photograph makes you think,
and since we can visualize what took place,
we believe it to be true. The “truthfulness” a
photograph represents is its strongest weapon.
Many people shy away from graphic, violent
imagery as it makes them uncomfortable. Yet,
while we should never force anyone to view
anything against their will, the truth must be
told. Today, more than ever, we are subjected
to sensational and violent images every day,
in a mistaken belief by the media that “this is
what the audience wants.” It can leave us feeling
disengaged and helpless, rather than informed
and empowered.
Making Peace was first produced by the
International Peace Bureau (IPB), the world’s
largest and oldest peace federation to mark
their Nobel Peace Prize centenary in 2010. Since
then, this outdoor exhibition has traveled to
nine major cities and been seen by millions of
ordinary people. It presents 124 photos, from an
initial research of more than 10,000, that covers
a century of photography – from 1914 to the
present. The exhibition brings together the work
of 111 photographers of all nationalities and the
photographs on the following pages are a small
sample of their work.
I like to call it the “Beginners guide to peace”
as it allows the general public, and especially the
youth, to understand better the five elements that
are crucial to forming peace. These are:
disarmament and nonviolence, conflict
prevention and resolution, economic
and social justice, human rights, law and
democracy, and the environment and
sustainable development.
While you may wonder how a
photographcanachieveallthis,remember
that many images have become iconic
symbols of their time. The problem with
these historic images – such as the photo of
a napalmed Vietnamese girl or the raising
of a flag over Iwo Jima – is that viewed on
their own they tend to reinforce people's
belief that human history is only about
conflict. Images have the power to elicit
strong emotions and it's important to
present a different story to our children:
using images that inspire and reaffirm
our belief in humanity. This is the aim of
Making Peace.
As the last panel in the exhibition
depicts (a full-sized mirror), making peace
is really up to you. •

can't escape that picture, I can work with it
for peace.' I accepted it as a powerful gift.”

women's right to education before being brutally shot in the head by a Taliban

dubbed the event "Malala Day." It was her first public speech since the attack,
leading the first ever Youth Takeover of the UN, with an audience of over 500
young education advocates from around the world. In 2014 Malala was co-
