Can you give your own
point of view or
standpoint on these
issues in our society?
Taking a stand means to voice
your opinion on issues that
are happening.
To make a stand is to
determine whether you agree
or disagree, to defend and to
oppose or commend
something.
There are certain ways on how you can
express your opinion You may use the
following phrases:
“I'm absolutely convinced that....”
“I'm sure that..."
“I strongly believe that....”
“I have no doubt that...”
“There's no doubt in my mind that...”
A comma should be observed
“In my opinion,....”
“In my view,...”
“From my point of view,...”
“From my perspective,....”
Tips on making a stand
Tip #1: Look at your own
experiences.
Example:
Agree or disagree?
“Everyone should experience to
watch movies, use Facebook and
play online games anytime they
want.”
Example of standpoint:
I strongly disagree. These should
not be done anytime we want
because too much exposure may
to these activities may result to
some health-related issues.
Tip #2: Collect information
about the topic. Always
base your facts.
Example:
Agree or disagree?
“We must conserve water.”
Example of standpoint:
• In my opinion, reducing our water usages
reduces the energy required to process and
deliver it to homes, businesses, farms, and
communities, which, in turn, helps to
reduce pollution and conserve fuel
resources.
• According to study, now we only have 1%
of drinkable water and that fact alone is
enough reason why we must conserve
Tip #3: Know what is right
and wrong.
Example:
Agree or disagree?
“Students should be allowed to
bring gadgets in school.”
Example of standpoint:
In my point of view students should be
allowed to bring gadgets in school
because of some reasons:
• There are some learning areas that
requires the use of gadgets.
• For emergency purposes.
Tip #4: Narrate your
opinion properly by
stating all your reasons
Example:
Agree or disagree?
“I am lucky to be a Filipino.”
Example of standpoint:
I strongly believe that I am lucky
to be a Filipino. Being born and
raised by my loving parents is
something that I can be proud
of.
