The Path for HAIR BALANCE
Maintainer
™
"I love styling my hair on a regular basis.
But I'd like to maintain my current hair length
while keeping it in great condition."
The Challenge
Maintainers seek a balance
between retaining length and routinely
styling their hair.
They have little to no desire to grow
their hair to extreme long lengths.
Maintainer
™
The Challenge
Maintainers have concerns about the
amount of time they spend on hair care
maintenance and prefer the quickest
routine possible.
They understand the trade-offs of
manipulating one's hair on a regular basis
but desire to use knowledge to keep
extreme breakage at bay.

The Solution
Maintainer

The following slides will offer you an example
of a care regimen that can help you
save time and maintain your current length.
Detangling
How Often: Once a week, or every 10 days
in sections.
Method: Finger detangling, or moderate
use of modified goody brush or
detangling comb
Result: Fewer delicate hair strands will be
broken due to handling if fingers are
used more than tools. Occasional use
of wide tooth combs and brushes
will cut down time. Use with caution.

Washing
The Maintainer’s Regimen for Hair Maintenance
How Often: Wash hair every 7 - 10 days
Method: Wash your hair in sections,
preferably after detangling.
Gently massage your scalp.
Result: Frequent washing removes the
dead layer of scalp cells (dandruff)
which can clog your follicles.
Scalp massages stimulate blood
flow to your follicles, promoting
hair growth.
Conditioning
The Maintainer’s Regimen for Hair Maintenance
How Often: Condition your hair every week
or immediately after each wash session.
Method: Use the rinse out method or deep
condition as needed.
Result: Conditioning your hair on a regular
basis, with a product containing
light proteins, can help to strengthen
and fortify your hair’s structure.
Trimming
The Maintainer’s Regimen for Hair Maintenance
How Often: The frequency of your trims will depend on
the amount of wear and tear on your hair.
Methods: “Trim in twists” - trimming the ends of your
two-strand twists can save time and allow
for an even-handed cut throughout hair.
“Dusting trim” - this method is considered
preventive maintainence and can be
performed as often as you feel necessary.
Result: These preventive trim methods will help
minimize excessive knotting and tangles.
Your detangling sessions will become easier
and less hair will be broken off manually.
Dusting Trim: 1/8" or less of hair is cut.
Classic Trim: "1/8 - 1" of hair is cut.
Recovery Trim: 1" or more of damaged hair is cut.
Thriver's Trim: Only weathered, split ends and knots are
cut from hair. Also known as the "search and destroy method"
Professional Trim: A cut administered by a salon professional.

Protective Styling
The Maintainer’s Regimen for Hair Maintenance
How Often: Wear protective styles at least 25 - 50% of
the month to prevent further hair breakage.
If your hair is type 4, kinky, use caution wearing
wash & go or any other styles that may increase
knotting.
Result: By protecting the ends of your hair (the oldest
parts) you extend the life span of each strand.
Protective styling can also give your hair a much
needed break from manipulation due to styling.
