Seychelles is an island country in the Indian Ocean off East Africa. It has a population of around 96,000 people and was formerly a British colony, gaining independence in 1976. The economy relies heavily on tourism and fishing. While GDP per capita is high relative to other African nations, there are still issues with poverty, income inequality, and a lack of employment opportunities outside of the tourism and fishing industries. Infrastructure has been developed for transportation, utilities, and telecommunications to support the country's economic needs.
