In this clip an extreme close-up was used when the 3 bin men were eating their lunch. This camera
technique was used to emphasize how bad their eating habits were. This represents them being in a
lower class as they haven’t been taught correct and polite manners. E.g. talking with your mouth full,
and loud, uncovered burping.

Another camera technique used was a tracking shot. It was used when Lady Macbeth was
inspecting the table that one the waiters had laid. This shot followed her around the table to mimic
her action. The fact that she measured the distance between cutlery, shows she was trained well in
etiquette and understanding of presentation to a high class audience. He character has now been
represented as having a higher status as her knowledge is greater than that of the waiter. In turn his
status is lowered by Lady Macbeth picking up a mistake.

In the clip dialogue was used to distinguish difference in class and status. The bin men had strong
northern accents and were hard to understand. This represents the bin men being lower class as
their accents show them to be uneducated. On the other hand, lady Macbeth’s ‘posh’ accent
represents her as being well educated and brought up in a different area of class compared to the
bin men. Also her career is a restaurantmanager; this is classed as a high status job as it is very
professional. The bin men are stuck in a dead end job and probably only do that job because they
can’t do anything else, skilled wise.

Another example of using dialogue is with Macbeth himself. In the kitchen Macbeth’s voice is the
loudest you can hear. This represents him as being dominate in the kitchen as the staffs are quiet to
hear his song. His status is also shown as high when he is showing 3 men how to cut a pig’s head up
correctly. The 3 men respect him as they are listening intently to what Macbeth has to say. This is
represented by the junior chiefs not talking over or interrupting Macbeth. This shows his value in the
kitchen.

In the clipLady Macbeth’s body language is very formal. This figure movement represents Lady
Macbeth as perfectionist, someone who takes care of her image.
