Botnets are networks of infected computers called bots that are controlled by botmasters through command and control servers. Bots are computers that have been infected by trojans or worms and take orders from and report back to botmasters. Botmasters use botnets to launch various cyberattacks by instructing large numbers of compromised computers to carry out distributed denial-of-service attacks, steal data, and spread to other systems.
