Abraham hosts three angels who announce that Sarah will bear a son within a year. The angels are sent to destroy Sodom for its wickedness, but Abraham bargains for the city. They save Lot's family but Lot's wife looks back and turns to salt. Sarah is taken by King Avimelech but returned. Sarah gives birth to Isaac as promised. At Isaac's circumcision, Abraham is commanded to sacrifice Isaac as a test of faith, but an angel stops him at the last moment. Sarah names Isaac "Yitzchak" which means "laughter" because she laughed at the idea of bearing a child in her old age.
