   Here, in the words of Jesus, we see the
two compartments of sheol. There is noth-
ing in the Bible that tells us that this same
condition in sheol didn’t exist before Abra-
ham. In fact, it must have existed before
he lived, since there were many righteous
men who lived before him. So this place in
the underworld must have existed before
he lived, and we have no reason to believe
that it functioned any differently before his
