Jacques Cousteau was a French naval officer, explorer, conservationist, filmmaker, and inventor. He was born in 1910 and attended the French Naval Academy in 1933. Cousteau invented the Aqua-Lung, an early version of scuba gear, which allowed greater exploration of the oceans. He went on to create many submarines, scuba gear, and undersea labs to conduct research.
