LOVE ISLAND
INTRO
• Love Islands introduction video always
starts by showing the title written in a
white bold font, next to a clear, heart
shaped ornament with golden sparkly
flakes floating down to the bottom of the
ornament. The ornament is sat on
golden sand with a bright blue ocean
behind it to show the audience the
program is based in a hot, foreign
country (Spain).
MISE EN
SCENE
introduction, which briefly introduces the
contestants who are speaking to the host of the
show, Caroline Flack. The mise en scene of the
locations of both Caroline and the contestants,
show very different ideologies. Caroline is standing
dressed in a short summer outfit surrounded by a
giant villa and swimming pool which shows the
setting where the program is based and filmed,
whereas the contestants' locations appear as
though they are still in the UK, they are also
dressed very differently. Caroline uses a mobile
phone to contact the contestants which hints the
show is aimed toward the more younger
generation. Each outfit roughly represented their
work/ jobs or their personalities so viewers could
get a rough idea of what the show is going to be
like and have a view on the contestants
personalities to form a judgement of the show
before watching it. The mise en scene of the
fitness magazine, gym equipment, tattoo artist,
make-up and etc, gives the audience little hints
and details about what their personalities are like ,
what they enjoy doing and how they act around
others based on stereotypes. By showing their
interests it allows viewers to see if this show would
be something the audience would be interested in.
The lighting appears to be natural lighting which
CAMERA
The long shot of Caroline is done to show off the villa and to
show they are abroad and no longer in England, once we
get a view off the villa it then switches into a mid shot of
Caroline and she begins to introduce the contestants by
phoning them. The camera movement used is panning to
switch scenes from Caroline in Spain to the contestants in
England, this emphasises that the contestants have to travel
to be in the show and both the contestants and the host
have very different roles in the show. After the introduction of
the contestants, they each have mid shots or close ups to
show their bodies and faces as it is a show based around
attraction to each of the contestants, this allows the
audience to make another judgement of the contestants
based off stereotypes again. At the end it does another long
shot of the villa to show how luxurious it is and to attract the
audience to watch it.
SOUND
The music/ theme tune that comes on once all the cast have done the intro, is a
very upbeat song that plays as the camera shows the villa, this shows us that
the show is going to be upbeat and have a positive atmosphere. The non-
diegetic sound of Ian Sterling's voice over is emphasising the excitement of the
show and description of the surroundings whilst making jokes attracts the
audience to watch the show as it is already showing its humour within the first
few minutes of the show and targeting the audience that is right for them. The
love island theme tune was produced by Andrei Basirov and Toby Jarvis "the
music is inspired by the dance culture of Ibiza and featured throughout the
show" this is to give the show a lively atmosphere attract their ideal audience.
EDITING
Within the first minute loveisland uses
editing when cross cutting scenes to
introduce the contestants of the show.
It goes from Caroline to then playing
the next clip of the contestants
speaking to Caroline via the phone or
receiving a text message from her,
this gives the audience an
excitingbrief introduction to the
contestants. It then goes back to
Caroline who introduces the show and
then cross cuts again to show the
audience around the luxury villa
where the contestants will be living for
the next 6 weeks if they manage to
stay voted in. Throughout the whole
introduction the main editing
techniques used is cross cutting to
