The document discusses parenting styles and how they have changed over time. It describes different parenting styles identified by Diana Baumrind, including permissive, authoritarian, and assertive-democratic parenting. It notes that while parenting advice has changed, the basic job of keeping children safe and helping them grow remains the same. Effective parenting requires consistency but also adapting styles as children age and situations change. Communication, understanding boundaries, and adapting approaches are important for positive parenting.
Now hope you understand the difference between modern and traditional parenting styles. You don’t need to visit any school or take any special classes to take care of your child, but you do need to keep up with the latest methods of parenting in our growing society.

Parents play a crucial role in teaching children morality and ethics. They are responsible for guiding children through life's primary lessons, both big and small, and for instilling an understanding of right and wrong. As a child's first teachers, parents must consciously work to impart important moral values such as honesty, justice, compassion, respect, and more. The document provides several suggestions for how parents can effectively inculcate moral values in children through their own example, storytelling, praise of good behavior, respectful communication, and more. It emphasizes that the values parents teach will shape children's character and influence their behavior long into adulthood.

Dana starting seeing you, her counsellor when she was 14 years old. Initially, her sessions were related to anxiety that began to peak at the time her parents separated. Dana continued to see you for over six months. As time went on, Dana began to disclose drug taking behaviour and sexual activity. She told you that she would occasionally smoke marijuana with her friends at parties and has protected sex with her boyfriend.
Dana confides that she really appreciates having you to talk to because no other adult understands what it’s like to be a teenager. She is also really happy that you haven’t told her Mum or Dad anything about the drugs or sex.
In this session, Dana discloses that she has broken up with her boyfriend. She also tells you that a friend-of-a-friend is organising heroin for them to try at a party on the weekend. She is really looking forward to it and says it will be her first try of a drug other than marijuana. She is also pleased that there’ll be “lots of new boys there” as they are announcing the party on Facebook.

Traditional vs. Modern Parenting: Unveiling the Pros and Cons for Your Child’...bluetroyvictorVinay
In the intricate web of parenting philosophies, the dichotomy between traditional and modern approaches looms large, each offering its unique set of advantages and drawbacks. As parents, navigating this labyrinth can be daunting, with the ultimate concern resting on what best serves our children’s future. Let’s delve into the depths of traditional and modern parenting, dissecting their merits and demerits to illuminate the path forward for your child.
Social skills are critical for children's success more than academic skills. Parents must model positive social behaviors like friendliness. It's important to teach children to respect others, acknowledge people, and handle awkward social situations. Parents should avoid harsh criticism and labels, instead focusing on having a positive outlook. For shy children, forcing interaction isn't effective - empathy is better, and reassurance can help them focus on others. Learning social skills happens through peers as well as at home, so supporting friendships provides interaction opportunities for skills to improve. Most children learn through trial and error without need for worry unless serious problems occur.

Children are placed in child care centers due to different circumstances one of them being work pressure for both parents. The other reason is that the child might be an orphan. In some circumstances professionals such as paediatricians advice parents to take their children to child centers so that they can be given good care by people who are qualified to handle children affairs. Children with special needs who attend child care centers at an early age miss out important learning that occurs in parental child interaction. One might question how a child who goes to daycare behavior might be different compared to a child that stays at home with parents. Depending on various circumstances, a child who attends daycare may be better prepared than kids who stay home exclusively with their parents. Judith Katz, an administrator from Minee Subee Early Education and Childcare centers says “While an ordinary daycare may watch over your child with safety in mind until pickup, an extraordinary daycare center may dedicate themselves to helping prepare your child for the future.”
To start with, entrusting children to someone else's care, even for just part of the day, can be troubling for most parents. This leads to a weaker bond between mother and child, particular in the infant and toddler stage. The American Academy of Pediatrics warns that illness often spreads easily when children congregate together in venues such as daycare and school. Frequent and thorough hand washing with antibacterial soap serves as a means of reducing the spread of illness in the home. This alone proves that the children are always at risk of getting infections.
Parent and family characteristics are more strongly linked to child development than were child care center’s features. The child’s outcome is better when the mother is responsive, sensitive, and attentive and provide good stimulation to their child. Families with organized routines, books, play materials and engaged in outings and library trips have their children have good social and cognitive outcomes. In child care centers, most of these services may not be given to the child. Most child care Centre provide warm, supportive environment that protect the child’s health and safety but do not provide care giving which promotes and stimulates development. Parents value both compliance and social skills more than caretaker. This kind of personal attachment makes the child feel valued and important which stimulates child’s development. This personal touch provided by the parent is not given to the children in child care Centre. Where parent is mostly involved in child growth, child’s developing sense of independence, self-concept and self-esteem is supported. Parents usually make their children feel needed since they keep on seeking assistance from th ...

This document defines socialization as the process by which people learn the behaviors, values, and norms of their society. It discusses several key aspects of socialization:
1) Socialization is a unique human process enabled by language. It allows internalization of societal values and self-regulation of behavior.
2) Socialization is a reciprocal and dynamic process between individuals and their environment. A child's genes, temperament, and maturation influence how they respond to and shape their environment.
3) Socialization can be intentional, as when parents consciously teach values, or unintentional, through observation of others without a specific lesson goal. Both shapes a child's acquisition of cultural knowledge and behaviors.

Guidelines for parents include supporting the child's development, frequent positive interaction, and attention during feeding. For adolescence, achieving independence and social roles are challenges, with guidelines like encouraging healthy friendships and open parent-child communication. Adulthood challenges include commitments like marriage, with guidelines to take time and get to know partners fully before making commitments.

1. Tomorrow heroes Children are a
blessing to parents, but child care is something that many
parents struggle with. All parents want what is best for their
children. As a parent, you need to make sure that your child is
taken care of and safe at all times. This can be difficult when
they don’t always listen to you or follow through with the rules
set out in What makes a good parent?
A good parent is someone who strives to make decisions in the best interest of the child.
What makes a great parent isn’t only defined by the parent’s action, but also their intention.
A good parent doesn’t have to be perfect. No one is perfect. No child is perfect either …
keeping this in mind is important when we set our expectations.
Successful parenting is not about achieving perfection. But it doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t
work towards that goal. Set high standards for ourselves first and then our children second.
We serve as important role models for them. of them.
Expand your child's circle of concern.
WHY?
Almost all children empathize with and care about a small circle of families and friends. Our
challenge is help children learn to have empathy and care about someone outside that
circle, such as a new child in class, someone who doesn’t speak their language, the school
custodian, or someone who lives in a distant country.
HOW?
It is important that children learn to zoom in, listening closely and attending to those in their
immediate circle, and to zoom out, taking in the big picture and considering the range of
people they interact with every day. Children also need to consider how their decisions
impact a community. Breaking a school rule, for example, can make it easier for others to
break rules. Especially in our more global world, it’s important, too, for children to develop
concern for people who live in other cultures and communities.
Thanks for watching.
