The new logo proposed for IIM Lucknow features a tree symbolizing the institute's philosophy of serving the nation through better management practices. The tree represents an institution providing knowledge, vision, leadership and service. The bark and small circle represent an individual innovator/leader who can help organizations grow to new heights. Sun rays above symbolize spreading knowledge. The logo will be used on the institute's publications, website, letterhead, visiting cards and signage to develop a unified brand identity.

3. The Institute
Situated at the outskirts of the historic and culturally rich city
of Lucknow, the Indian Institute of Management (IIML), was
established in 1984, by the Government of India, as a
national level school of excellence in management science.
IIML 's mission is to be a global, socially conscious and inte-
grated school of management, towards management
deveopment, both in India and abroad.
Towards this, IIML undertakes a diverse range of academic
activities and interventions aimed at creation, dissemination,
and application of management knowledge and practices.
These include : the Post Graduate Programme; the Fellow
Programme; the Management Development Programme;
Research Programmes; and Consulting Programmes. IIML is
also entering into collaborative arrangements with leading

business schools and research centres in India, Europe,
Canada, South and Southeast Asia.

The Present Logo is a globe with IIM Lucknow written over
it.and there is a tag line run below in hindi -”better manage-
ment toward a better nation”
The old logo has many probelms -
It does not convey many philosophies of IIM Lucknow.
Secondly the visually logo appears to be very bad with text
written on globe being not clearly visible ,direct image of
globe being used and there is also outlines of regions on
globe which too don’t look good visually .

The logo has been designed in the form of tree which sym-
bolizes the philosophy of IIML to serve the nation and work
for its well being through their better management
practices,The tree symblizes an institution of service
,knowledge ,vision and leadership.
The bark with the small circle stands for an individual who is
an innovator , leader and a manager (which IIML expects to
produce) that could stand strong and determinant and
could easily manage an organization of people (symboized
by upper portion of tree ) and help it grow and reach new

This also symbolizes the philosophy of IIML to globally
integrate with many institutions(symbolized by group of
rays) and work for better management practices
The upper part of logo also creates an image of spread of
sun rays which stands creation and spread of knowledge
and management practices.

the colour of indian flag as well as sun rays
