A permutation is an arrangement of objects where changing the order or objects results in a different permutation. The document provides an example of taking 2 squares out of 3 possible squares, resulting in 6 possible permutations. It then asks how many 5 card hands are possible from a standard 52 card deck, calculating the number to be 311,875,200 possible hands.
The document discusses functions and function notation. It defines a function as a special type of relation where each element of the independent variable is paired with exactly one element of the dependent variable. It provides examples of different ways to represent functions, including coordinate graphs, symbolic rules, and ordered pairs. The document also discusses evaluating functions, the domain and range of functions, and identifies whether certain relations are functions or not.
Presentation by Claire Boonstra, Layar co-founder, on the V2_ AR event in Rotterdam, December 4th 2009. Showcasing the range of possibilities of Layar version 3.0, including: displaying of buildings on top of their construction site, putting the Beatles back on Abbey Road, experiencing history and AR games.
This document summarizes the key factors that led the United States to initially remain neutral in World War I but eventually enter the war in 1917. It discusses the economic reasons for neutrality due to American loans to the Allies and not wanting to jeopardize being repaid. It also describes the human toll of the war and desire to avoid U.S. casualties. However, events like the sinking of the Lusitania, which killed American citizens, and the Zimmerman Telegram proposing a German alliance with Mexico against the U.S. increased pro-war sentiment and helped push the U.S. into the conflict.
This document summarizes various foods and sweets that are traditional to and popular in the Aso region of Japan. It discusses dengaku (tofu, taro and miso), roll cakes shaped like cows, soba noodles that have been cultivated there for 1000 years, aka ushi beef, fuuchenduke pickles originating from a local festival, apple pie and other desserts sold at a popular spot called Ringonoki, various ice creams, dagojiru stew, and kimchi produced on local farms.
This document discusses using linear models to summarize relationships in data. It provides examples of how astronomers use a linear model called Hubble's Constant to describe the relationship between galaxies' distances and velocities. It introduces the correlation coefficient r as a measure of how closely data points fit a linear model or line of best fit, with r values closer to 1 or -1 indicating a stronger linear correlation. Some scatter plots with r values are shown to illustrate what different r values look like. The document explains the formula for calculating r and encourages interpreting what the various parts of the formula represent. It then poses fitting a line of best fit to a set of sample x and y data values as an example.

The document discusses the effects of extreme heat on the human body. Due to lack of water and prolonged sweating in hot desert conditions, the body loses salt and water which can cause dizziness and nausea. The heart must pump more blood while blood vessels dilate to accommodate increased blood flow. Overheating can also cause muscle cramps and spasms. Proper clothing and staying hydrated are needed to maintain homeostasis in very hot environments.
This document is a collection of poems and a short story by Carrie M. Harvey. The poems explore themes of nature, family, and relationships. The short story is about a man reflecting on his divorce and former relationship, as well as his appreciation for his mother who helps take care of his children. He realizes he should return to attending church with his family.
Factoring by grouping allows factoring out the greatest common factor from some but not all terms of a polynomial, which can make the entire factorization easier. This technique can be used to factor difficult quadratic trinomials. Examples are provided to illustrate factoring by grouping.
This document provides an introduction to anatomy and physiology, including:
1) It defines anatomy and physiology, and describes different levels of organization in the body from atoms to organ systems.
2) It lists the 11 organ systems and their basic functions, and explains how damage to one level can affect the entire system.
3) It introduces homeostasis and the components involved in homeostatic regulation including receptors, control centers, and effectors.
The document outlines the steps involved in the writing process, including getting ideas, planning, writing, responding, and revising. It emphasizes that writing is an iterative process that involves rewriting and revising. When writing effectively, the text recommends making it interesting and getting involved. Planning involves analyzing elements like participants, intention, place, and time. Writing should have a good beginning and end, with well-ordered paragraphs of the right length starting with a main sentence. Revising is essential to detect and change deficiencies.
Mass is the amount of matter contained in an object and does not change based on location or gravity, while weight is the force of gravity on an object and can change depending on the planet. Mass is measured in kilograms and remains constant, whereas weight is measured in Newtons and can vary depending on the gravitational pull of different planets on the object. Conversions show an object's weight on the moon is one-sixth its weight on Earth.
This document provides instructions for graphing a function by finding the x and y intercepts, determining any horizontal asymptotes, and locating the maximum value to sketch the overall graph.
