4. I ponder of something great
My lungs will fill and then deflate
They fill with fire, exhale desire
I know it's dire my time today
I have these thoughts, so often I ought
To replace that slot with what I once bought
'Cause somebody stole my car radio
And now I just sit in silence
Sometimes quiet is violent
I find it hard to hide it
My pride is no longer inside
It's on my sleeve
My skin will scream reminding me of
Who I killed inside my dream
I hate this car that I'm driving
There's no hiding for me
I'm forced to deal with what I feel
There is no distraction to mask what is real
I could pull the steering wheel
CAR RADIO LYRICS
5. I have these thoughts, so often I ought
To replace that slot with what I once bought
'Cause somebody stole my car radio
And now I just sit in silence
I ponder of something terrifying
'Cause this time there's no sound to hide behind
I find over the course of our human existence
One thing consists of consistence
And it's that we're all battling fear
Oh dear, I don't know if we know why we're here
Oh my, too deep, please stop thinking
I liked it better when my car had sound
There are things we can do
But from the things that work there are only two
And from the two that we choose to do
Peace will win and fear will lose
It is faith and there's sleep
We need to pick one please because
Faith is to be awake
And to be awake is for us to think
And for us to think is to be alive
And I will try with every rhyme
To come across like I am dying
To let you know you need to try to think
6. I have these thoughts, so often I ought
To replace that slot with what I once bought
'Cause somebody stole my car radio
And now I just sit in silence
And now I just sit in silence
And now I just sit
And now I just sit in silence
And now I just sit in silence
And now I just sit in silence
And now I just sit
I ponder of something great
My lungs will fill and then deflate
They fill with fire, exhale desire
I know it's dire my time today
I have these thoughts, so often I ought
To replace that slot with what I once bought
Cause somebody stole my car radio
And now I just sit in silence
7. CAR RADIO: SONG ANALYSIS
The first part of the song (before the chorus) talks about how dealing with
emotions can be really hard and the second part (after the chorus) about how
dealing with emotions is worth it.
The voice of the song is Tyler Joseph when he had depression and how he
thought he couldn’t handle his feelings.
All the lyrics of the song are about him running out of distractions and having
to actually deal with his problems and emotions. The lyrics represent him
learning to be alive. The tone is really sad because he actually screams on the
song saying how he now has to face the real world.
8. CAR RADIO: ANALYSIS

only distraction, music, was robbed

Hopeless: He has no hope of getting out of his depression
9. CAR RADIO: LITERARY DEVICES
“My lungs will fill and then deflate//They fill with fire, exhale desire”
Metaphor: He is so excited that his lungs do not fill with air, he feels they are
filling with fire and desire
“My skin will scream reminding me of//Who I killed”
Metaphor: He feels guilty of killing somebody and feels his skin is screaming
“To come across like I am dying”
Simile: Like I am dying: He is not actually dying but he feels he is.
10. CAR RADIO: DEEP PHRASES
“I know it’s dire my time today”
“Somebody stole my car radio// And now I’m just sitting in silence”
“Sometimes quiet is violent”
“My pride is no longer inside// It’s on my sleeve// My skin will scream//Reminding
me of who I killed”
“There is no distraction to mask what is real”
“Faith is to be awake//And to be awake is for us to think//And for us to think is to
be alive//And I will try with every rhyme//To come across like I am dying//To let
you know you need to try to think”
11. CAR RADIO: ANALYSIS OF THE TITLE
What Tyler Joseph meant in that song was that he used his car radio to distract
himself from his depression and suicidal thoughts, but then (in the song)
someone stole his car radio, and now he's got nothing to distract him from
those feelings anymore.

depression and suicidal thoughts
12. WHY DO WE LIKE THIS SONG?
Ambar: I personally like deep and strong songs. Songs you can cry to and that talk
about things that happen and not love or other things. I admire Tyler since I was
really little and grew up with his songs. I like all the deep phrases the song has, I
love that it is a real story and that it can be really relatable because we all have a
distraction for something we don't like. Maybe not suicidal thoughts but we all do.
MY distraction is also music and I don’t know what I would be without it such as
Tyler in this song.
Iña: I like it because it’s very deep and sad and shows a reality that people live
nowadays
